Lite Wings
2015, 2016
A Burning Man project which includes 19 meters of RGB LED's, a custom driver board, and off the shelf controller. As a costume piece it needed to be comfortable and versatile for body motion. Completed in 4 months with boards fabricated overseas. A low price point was one of the design goals of this project so physical connectors were not used.
Light effects on the wings are expandable beyond patterns contained in the off the shelf controller since driver boards use WS2811 chips.
While the scale of the finished wings had spectacular visual effects, a second revision was created in 2016 using the same electronic pieces that is smaller and easier to adapt over different fashion ensembles.
Wings almost fully extended.
